Finca
2023, Perdriel, Lujan de Cuyo, Argentina
Profile & Story
The vineyard that gives origin to this Malbec was planted in 1938 and was cultivated by horses until 2002. It grows at 3200 feet of altitude, in alluvial soils: sandy loam with clay layers and deep gravel beds, formed by the millenary activity of Mendoza River. The combination this soil and old vines results in this classic wine from Mendoza, with flavors of attractive austerity, strong minerality, good balance and a long finish.
Tasting Notes
In the nose I meet Finca. A strange thing to say, but if I go the traditional route of describing fruits and flowers, I’ll miss the most important thing: Character. Personality. Finca is true to itself. This is also applicable to all our wines (They are, after all, a line-up of Terroir). But in 2022 Finca, it is more the case. It is a wine whose display of character is “more equal” than that of the other wines (paraphrasing Animal Farm). A nose that invites me to a conversation. Relaxed, but not trivial. Finca has important things to say. The palate is also quintessential Finca. If you have a bottle of other year, open it side by side. And marvel in the similitudes and the differences. Velvet. Fruit. Graphite. Violets. But above all, Calle Cobos 2142, Perdriel. Its place, its origin. Its identity.
