Neyen
2021, Apalta Valley, Colchagua Valley, Chile
Profile & Story
Deeply rooted in origin, Neyen is a blend that authentically reflects the century-old vines and the unique soils of Apalta. VINEYARD: A vineyard perfectly adapted to its place, located on the ancient alluvial terraces of the Tinguiririca River, where the Andes and Coastal Mountain ranges converge to form a crescent of hills that protects the century-old vines. SOILS: The volcanic granite soils from the mountains and the clay and silt soils from the river provide natural drainage. In pursuit of the most genuine expression of Neyen’s terroir, organic, biodynamic, and regenerative practices nurture living soils that deliver authentic and pure fruit. WINEMAKER’S NOTES: The grapes are hand-harvested in the early morning. Clusters are double-selected and destemmed, and the berries are gently transferred by gravity into 5,000 L tanks, where they ferment with native yeasts for 24 to 28 days. The wine then macerates on its skins for eight to ten days, before being racked into another tank to settle for 36 hours. Once again, it is transferred into 225-liter French oak barrels, where it ages for eighteen months. After blending, the wine is finished in a 3,000-liter foudre for six months to achieve perfect integration, resulting in multiple layers of aromas and flavors.
