Weingut J. & H. A. Strub — “Strub 1710” — has cultivated prime vineyard sites around Nierstein, Rheinhessen since 1710; the family estate is today led by Walter and Sebastian Strub, focused on transparent, terroir-driven Riesling. Niersteiner Pettenthal is one of the great vineyards of the Roter Hang (Red Slope), whose red sandstone and slate soils (Rotliegenden) date back some 280 million years and lend the wines a distinctive mineral character. Kabinett is the lightest Prädikat level, picked at natural ripeness with a touch of residual sweetness.
