Domaine Hatzimichalis was founded in 1973 by Dimitris Hatzimichalis in the Atalanti Valley of Central Greece and is now run by his sons Leonidas and Panagiotis; the estate's privately owned vineyards have grown to roughly 220 hectares. This Assyrtiko comes from the estate's single vineyard 'Alepotrypa' ('foxhole'), a flatland site near the sea with clay-loam and sandy soils that were once covered by the sea — the source, the winery says, of the wine's pronounced salinity. Unoaked, 100% Assyrtiko.
Tasting Notes
Bright yellow in color with lifted citrus aromas of lemon peel and grapefruit; sharp, saline acidity and a dry, lemony, mineral-driven palate. Approx. 14.5% ABV.
