Profile & Story

Mega Spileo takes its name from the historic monastery and cave near Kalavryta in the Peloponnese, where monks made wine on this vineyard site from the 15th century until the early 20th century, when the vines were abandoned; the current owners revived the historic mountain vineyard. This 100% Sauvignon Blanc, PGI Achaia, is grown at nearly 1,000 metres in the province of Kalavryta and harvested in mid-September. Pre-fermentative extraction is followed by static racking; part of the must is fermented in large barrels, the remainder in small stainless tanks with selected yeasts at low temperature, then matured on its lees for three weeks.

Tasting Notes

Light yellow with green hues; intense aromas of exotic fruit (guava, passion fruit) mingled with notes of asparagus. Lush, gastronomic palate with pronounced acidity and an intense, fruity aftertaste.

Pairing Recommendation

Grilled fish, ceviche, shellfish, pasta with shrimp or white sauces, appetizers, and green salads.
