Kavaklıdere, founded in Ankara in 1929, was Turkey's first private wine producer and remains one of the country's oldest and most prominent wineries. Yakut ("ruby") has been one of its signature brands since the 1950s, when it launched as "Yakut Damlası." The wine is made from hand-picked Öküzgözü and Boğazkere grapes from Eastern Anatolia along with Alicante and Carignan from the Aegean region, slow-fermented with natural yeast in stainless steel.
