Profile & Story
Urlar (Gaelic for 'the earth') was established in 2004 by Angus and Davina Thomson in the Gladstone sub-region of the Wairarapa, New Zealand, reflecting the family's Scottish heritage. Urlar is the largest single organic vineyard in the Wairarapa (75 acres), BioGro-certified organic since 2010 and farmed biodynamically; winemaker Jannine Rickards trained under Ata Rangi. The Pinot Noir is the estate's flagship wine.
Tasting Notes
Dark, smoky cherry aromas with an almost saline edge, bright red and dark fruit, a touch of red licorice and floral notes, framed by fine, structured tannins and classic Wairarapa savoriness.
