Profile & Story

Bodegas Alvear, founded in 1729 in Montilla-Moriles, is the oldest winery in Andalucía and the second-oldest in Spain. Best known for its solera-aged Pedro Ximénez, the estate also produces Tres Miradas ('Three Perspectives'), a project developed with the winemakers of Envínate and later Ramiro Ibáñez to explore different plots and terroirs within the Sierra de Montilla through unfortified, dry-vinified Pedro Ximénez. The grapes are directly pressed and fermented in traditional 4,800-liter concrete tinajas, where the wine remains for eight months beneath a natural layer of flor yeast.

Tasting Notes

Though Pedro Ximénez is best known for the sweetest styles of Montilla and sherry, this dry, fulsome table wine shows the grape's other range: green and yellow apple, pear, wild fennel, and hay, with refreshing, citrusy acidity that builds through the finish.
