Profile & Story

Domaine de Sulauze is a 29-hectare biodynamic estate in Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, run by Karina and Guillaume Lefèvre, who met while hiking in Corsica and bought the property in 2004. The entire domaine, including its wheat, barley, olive oil, and vegetable production, is Demeter-certified, and much of the farming is done with animal traction. In the cellar, Guillaume ferments with native yeasts, uses little to no sulfur (and only volcanic sulfur when he does), and avoids fining and filtration. Pomponette, the estate's best-known wine and roughly 40% of its annual production, is a rosé blend of the traditional Provençal red and white varieties the domaine grows in its limestone-rich 'lauze' soils — principally Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Rolle.

Tasting Notes

Beguilingly tasty, as the estate itself describes it, this is a fresh, food-friendly Provençal rosé shaped by low-intervention, native-yeast winemaking.
