Profile & Story
Shelter Winery is a small, family-run estate in Kenzingen, Baden, founded in 2003 by husband-and-wife team Hans-Bert Espe and Silke Wolf. Farming just five hectares across Kenzingen and Malterdingen without herbicides or pesticides, the couple devote themselves almost entirely to Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), picked by hand with a hands-off approach in the cellar: a cold soak followed by gentle pressing, fermentation in open-top wooden vessels, and aging mostly in used oak. This bottling is their base-tier Pinot Noir / Spätburgunder.
Tasting Notes
Shelter's Pinot Noirs are typically juicy and supple, with delicate spice and finely meshed tannin — a more restrained, elegant style within Baden's Pinot Noir tradition.
