Profile & Story

Sebastien David represents the fifteenth generation of his family making wine in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, with roots tracing to 1634; he took over the 12-hectare biodynamic (Ecocert-certified) family estate in 1998 and released his first vintage in 1999. Hurluberlu -- a local nickname meaning roughly 'someone with their head in the clouds' -- is his flagship cuvee, sourced from about 20 parcels of hand-harvested Cabernet Franc averaging 25 years old on sandy, gravelly, limestone-based soils. Whole clusters undergo roughly 25 days of carbonic maceration in concrete tanks with wild-yeast fermentation and daily juice racking to keep extraction gentle, then age 6-9 months before bottling unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfur. ABV approximately 12.5%. Imported to the US by T. Edward Wines & Spirits.

Tasting Notes

Bright raspberry, cranberry, and red plum with a peppery, herbaceous lift -- an exuberant, chillable, glou-glou style Cabernet Franc.
