Clos de l'Abbaye is a 6.85-hectare Bourgueil estate at the historic Abbey of Bourgueil, where Benedictine monks first planted vines in the 11th century; tradition holds that an abbot brought the original Cabernet Franc cuttings from Bordeaux. The Lorieux family has farmed the property since 1975, organically since 1998, with Jérémy and Faustine Lorieux now in charge of vines averaging 30 to 95 years old on flinty gravel soil.
Tasting Notes
100% Cabernet Franc from old vines on flinty gravel; expect the bright red-fruit, violet and graphite character typical of Bourgueil, with the light-to-medium body and fine, silky tannin of the appellation's classic style.
