Profile & Story

In 2003 Francesco Cirelli and his wife Michela purchased a farm near the ancient hilltop town of Atri, establishing Agricola Cirelli — a 22-hectare farm within the WWF-protected Riserva Naturale Calanchi di Atri (Teramo, Abruzzo). Organic certification came in 2006 and biodynamic certification in 2021. The estate is a polyculture farm with vineyards, olive groves, vegetables, and herds of grazing animals for natural fertilization. The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC (Linea Classica) is made from 100% Montepulciano on clay and limestone soils about 8 km from the Adriatic. Grapes are de-stemmed, gently crushed, and macerated in stainless steel for about seven days, softly pressed to prevent aggressive tannins; native-yeast spontaneous fermentation; aged ~6 months in stainless steel; bottled with minimal sulfites.

Tasting Notes

Intense, luminous ruby red with youthful purple reflections; aromas of mature red fruits — cherry, plum, blackberry — with subtle spicy nuances and hints of Mediterranean scrubland; succulent and dynamic palate with soft, well-integrated tannins, harmonious body, and a long fruity finish.

Pairing Recommendation

Versatile and food-friendly — braised meats, grills of all kinds, pizza, and burgers (even chilled).
