Profile & Story

Ciro Picariello — hailed as a master of Fiano di Avellino — began planting his Summonte vines in 1990 and released his first commercial wine in 2004 from a 7-hectare estate in Summonte and Montefredane (Irpinia, Avellino) at 550–650 m on volcanic soils, which he runs with his wife Rita and son Bruno. The "BruEmm" cuvée — named for Ciro's children Bruno and Emma — is a single-vineyard Falanghina farmed near Benevento on argillaceous-calcareous soils at about 400 m, distinct from his Irpinian Fianos. Farming is organic; grapes are hand-harvested, fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, aged about five months on lees in stainless, with minimal SO2, unfined and unfiltered; roughly 400 cases per year.

Tasting Notes

Lemon zest, green apple, white peach, pineapple, melon, mint, chamomile, and Marcona almond; fresh and lively acidity, strong mineral character, great complexity, and a long finish.

Pairing Recommendation

Seafood of all kinds and roasted light meats.
