Profile & Story

Centopassi is the wine project of the Libera Terra movement (Consorzio Libera Terra Mediterraneo, a social cooperative near Palermo), producing organic wines on Sicilian land confiscated from the mafia and returned to local growers. The Giato wines, named for the district around the ancient Greek theatre on Mount Jato, are dedicated to Peppino Impastato — “Onda Pazza” recalls the most symbolic program of Radio Aut, the free radio he founded — and to the vine growers who support the recovery and valorization of the territory and its traditions. Giato Grillo is a Sicilia DOC blend of Grillo (60%) and Catarratto (40%) from certified-organic vineyards. The grapes are hand-harvested into boxes from mid-August to mid-September, soft-crushed and fermented in steel vats, then matured in steel for about four months.
