Profile & Story
Adi Badenhorst grew up at Groot Constantia, where his grandfather managed vineyards for 46 years; after training at Elsenburg and working in France, New Zealand and South Africa, he founded A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines in 2008 with cousin Hein. The estate farms 160 hectares biologically and makes natural wines in the traditional manner. Secateurs Chenin Blanc comes from old bush-trained vines planted in the 1960s-70s on the northern slopes of the Paardeberg.
Tasting Notes
Hand-harvested and chilled overnight, whole-bunch pressed, with vineyards picked over 12 days and fresh juice added daily to fermenting tanks using only native yeast; about 25% ferments in old casks and large foudres, then ages 10 months on gross lees with occasional stirring. Flinty aromas of honey, orange blossom and white stone fruit, with exceptional texture and concentrated flavor.

Well suited to shellfish or fresh, herb-driven dishes, in keeping with the wine's bright acidity and texture.
