E. Guigal, based in Ampuis, is one of the Rhone Valley's most respected houses. Their Cotes du Rhone Rouge is a blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre, made using traditional methods with temperature-controlled fermentation and long skin contact, then aged 18 months in large wooden foudres.
Tasting Notes
Deep, dark red in appearance with brightness. Fresh fruit, red berries and spice on the nose; full, round and racy on the palate with smooth, balanced tannins -- a full-bodied, rich and intensely aromatic wine with a lingering, elegant finish. Best served 16-18C; capable of aging roughly 8 years.
