Kuentz-Bas is a historic Alsace estate in Husseren-les-Chateaux whose winemaking dates to family archives from 1795; the cellar in use today was built in 1894 when the Kuentz and Bas families united by marriage. The domaine has been certified organic since 2007 and biodynamic since 2008. Its entry-level Tradition range, of which this Riesling is part, is sourced from limestone-loess and loam/clay soils around Husseren-les-Chateaux and Eguisheim at 300-400m altitude; grapes are hand-harvested and slowly pressed for three to six hours before decanting, and the wine matures on its fine lees for stability and body prior to filtration and bottling.
