Hess traces its roots to 1978, when Swiss entrepreneur Donald Hess began developing mountain vineyards on Napa Valley's Mount Veeder. Maverick Ranches marked the family's first foray into Paso Robles, sourced from an organically farmed vineyard planted to Bordeaux varieties.
