Profile & Story

Artemis Karamolegos Winery continues a family tradition on Santorini that began nearly a century ago with the cultivation of local produce, Assyrtiko in particular. Artemis's grandfather kept a small cellar for home consumption starting in 1952, but it was Artemis's own devotion to the Santorini land and his drive to preserve the island's winemaking heritage that led, in 2003, to the founding of the modern winery at Exo Gonia. The estate is known for a remarkable range of Assyrtiko wines, authentic to Santorini's volcanic soils and marked by simplicity, typicity and ageability, and it was the first winery on Santorini to produce a skin-contact Assyrtiko, released under the label Mystirio. Alongside its Assyrtiko-based whites the estate also produces the traditional sun-dried dessert wine Vinsanto. Many of its vineyards carry vines over 100 years old, trained in the traditional basket-shaped kouloura system that shields the grapes from the island's strong winds, farmed with the aim of the best quality fruit and the least possible environmental impact. This bottling belongs to the winery's Classics Collection, its foundational range built around a pure varietal expression of Assyrtiko grown in Santorini's volcanic soil.

Tasting Notes

In keeping with the style of the winery's Classics range, this is a pure expression of Assyrtiko: vibrant and mineral-driven, with the crisp, racy acidity typical of wines grown in Santorini's volcanic soil.
