Profile & Story

Ca' del Bosco was founded in the hills of Erbusco, in Italy's Franciacorta region, when a young Maurizio Zanella began working the two hectares of land his mother, Annamaria Clementi Zanella, had bought around the modest house that gave the estate its name. Guided by a philosophy of respect for nature, treating the land as a legacy to be safeguarded rather than exploited, the estate balances traditional craftsmanship with continual innovation in the cellar. The '48ª Edizione' bottling continues the lineage of Cuvée Prestige, a wine that began life in 1976 as Franciacorta Pinot, took on the name Franciacorta Brut in 1991 as its terroir-driven style became more defined, and finally matured into today's Cuvée Prestige in 2005 after more than three decades of refinement. This edition is built from grapes grown across 240 certified organic vineyard plots, 185 planted with Chardonnay (average age 25 years), 8 with Pinot Bianco (average age 32 years) and 52 with Pinot Nero (average age 21 years), hand-picked and selected before undergoing Ca' del Bosco's signature vinification, including an oxygen-free press and fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The blend combines 88% wines from the 2023 vintage with 10% reserve wine from 2022 and 2% from 2021; 2023 itself was a season of extremes, with a cold, frost-threatened spring and a cool summer that turned suddenly hot in the final weeks before harvest, concentrating the fruit and yielding grapes with both acid freshness and ripe intensity. The wine matures on its lees for an average of 25 months before disgorgement, using Ca' del Bosco's proprietary oxygen-free process, and is finished as an Extra Brut with a dosage of 1.5 grams per liter.

Tasting Notes

Ca' del Bosco has not published vintage-specific tasting notes for the 48ª Edizione. As a Chardonnay-led Extra Brut Franciacorta blended with Pinot Nero and a small portion of Pinot Bianco, and aged 25 months on the lees, it follows the fresh, fine-beaded, food-friendly style that defines the Cuvée Prestige range.
