Profile & Story

Bodegas Gerardo Méndez, producer of the Do Ferreiro wines, is based in the Val do Salnés subzone of the Rías Baixas Denominación de Origen in Galicia, one of the most emblematic areas of the appellation. The estate combines centenary vines, which stand as proof of its authenticity, with progressively modernized plantings across its family properties, applying ancient winegrowing knowledge and meticulous, refined technique to the prized Albariño grape. Do Ferreiro Albariño, the house's original label, is made from vines between 10 and 50 years old, grown mostly on predominantly sandy soil over granite bedrock and trained largely on the traditional emparrado (pergola) system with Cazenave-Marcón pruning. The grapes are destemmed, given a cold pre-fermentation skin maceration, pressed, and fermented using a selected must starter, then aged on fine lees in stainless steel tanks. The wine is 100% Albariño at 12.5% alcohol, with approximately 80,000 bottles produced annually.

Tasting Notes

Pale greenish-yellow in color and bright, with a fresh, broad and deep aroma of ripe fruit, white flowers and a hint of iodine. The palate shows well-integrated acidity, a silky and elegant texture, saline and mineral character, and a very long finish. Best served at 8-10°C.
