Profile & Story
Domaine Egly-Ouriet has no website of its own; the following draws on its US importer, North Berkeley Imports. Based in Ambonnay, in the heart of Champagne, the estate is regarded as a cult producer among Champagne enthusiasts, and winemaker Francis Egly has described his own approach in terms closer to the great domaines of Burgundy than to other Champagne houses. The estate is known for harvesting notably ripe fruit, uncommon in Champagne, and for aging its wines considerably longer than is typical in the region. The Grand Cru Rosé Extra Brut is blended from 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, with a small addition of still red Ambonnay wine for color, and is aged in bottle for more than three years before release.
Tasting Notes
Suave, silky and profound, this is a very serious rosé Champagne, its character shaped by more than three years of aging in bottle.
