Maison Krug was founded in Reims in 1843 by Joseph Krug, who set out to craft the very best Champagne he could offer every year, regardless of how each year's harvest turned out, a break from the conventions of his time. His words still guide the House today: 'We cannot obtain good wines without using good elements and good terroirs... these are exceptions on which you can never rely.' True to that founding philosophy, Krug releases a new Édition of Grande Cuvée each year, describing it as the most generous expression of Champagne. The 172ème Édition is assembled from 146 individual wines drawn from 11 different years, the youngest from 2016 and the oldest from 1998, with reserve wines from the House's library making up 42% of the final blend to bring breadth and roundness. It is based around the 2016 vintage and is composed of 44% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier.
