Royal Tokaji '6 Puttonyos' Tokaji Aszú

Profile & Story

Royal Tokaji was founded in 1990 by wine writer Hugh Johnson and Bordeaux winemaker Peter Vinding-Diers, together with local growers, as a pioneering effort to revive Tokaj after decades of communist-era state control had prioritized volume over quality. The winery farms single-vineyard First Growth sites, Mézes Mály, Nyulászó, Szt. Tamás and Betsek, combining traditional Tokaji techniques with modern technology, and its wines have won more than 100 international awards. The Gold Label Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2018 is made from fine Aszú berries, hand-selected for quality, balance and delicate botrytis, which were macerated in fermenting must for two days before pressing. After fermentation, the wine was aged for over two years in 300- and 500-liter Hungarian oak casks in the estate's deep underground cellars, and was bottled in June 2021. At 6 Puttonyos, it carries a residual sugar of 197.1 grams per liter, 6.75 grams per liter acidity and 11% alcohol.

Pairing Recommendation

Sip as an apéritif, or serve with fruit-based desserts or hard cheeses; it can also be enjoyed on its own in place of dessert. Serve cool.
