Profile & Story
Croci is a small family estate in the Colli Piacentini, on the Monterosso hill in the Val d'Arda south of Piacenza, run by Massimiliano Croci and his father Ermanno since the farm was established in 1935. The vineyards are certified organic, hand-harvested, and worked without herbicides or synthetic fertilizers, on crumbly, limestone-rich soils that Croci describes as a fossil "beach." Lubigo is a traditional frizzante rifermentato made from 100% Ortrugo, destemmed and fermented spontaneously without sulfur in cement tank, then bottled unfiltered with only a light dose of sulfur, generally around Easter and during a waning moon. "Lubigo," meaning "landslide," is the name of the specific Ortrugo parcel the wine comes from.
Tasting Notes
Dense and structured with a light natural fizz, showing lemon oil, apple, yeast and bread notes, and a mineral, long, complex finish that some describe as closer to Champagne than to a simple Prosecco.
