Domaine du Grapillon d'Or is a Gigondas estate at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, owned by the Chauvet family since 1806 (present in Gigondas since 1630); Bernard Chauvet has run the domaine for around 40 years alongside his daughter Céline, 9th generation. The estate farms about 14 hectares of Gigondas -- sandy soil at the top of the slope, clay-limestone at the base -- including old-vine Grenache parcels from 1919 and 1929 and one of the earliest Syrah plantings in Gigondas (1966). This base cuvée ('Cuvée 1806' on current vintages) is a Grenache-dominant blend with Syrah, hand-harvested and sorted, with maceration and aging typically 12-18 months (some listings for 2022 cite roughly 14 months in foudre, ~15% ABV). The estate uses HVE-certified, sustainable methods and the wine has 10-year aging potential.
