Profile & Story
Château Moncontour is a historic Vouvray estate whose site dates to the 4th century as property of the Bishop of Tours; King Charles VII acquired it in the 15th century for his mistress Agnès Sorel. The château burned during the 1789 Revolution. Since 1994 the Feray family has renovated the vineyard and cellar, making Moncontour one of the most visited estates in the Loire Valley. Grapes for this dry Vouvray ('Les Chapelles' cuvée, 100% Chenin Blanc) are hand-harvested from vines averaging 30 years old, grown on the region's tuffeau limestone soils. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with systematic lees-stirring (bâtonnage) to build richness while preserving Chenin Blanc's aromatic purity.
Tasting Notes
Pale yellow color with a floral and fruit-driven bouquet showing hazelnut aromas; ripe yellow apple and juicy peach with honeyed pear and lemon meringue, a mouthwatering acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish reflecting the limestone terroir.
