The Prisoner Wine Company, based in Napa Valley/St. Helena, California, is known for bold, iconoclastic blends built around its original red-blend cult wine 'The Prisoner.' This Pinot Noir is currently sourced from Sonoma Coast fruit and carries an ABV of 14.5%. The 2023 growing season began roughly three to four weeks behind average due to a cold, wet spring, but an extended mild summer into October allowed for excellent flavor development, color and phenolic ripeness, resulting in a balanced, well-crafted wine.
Tasting Notes
The bouquet shows ripe cranberry and dried black cherry alongside earthy floral notes, forest floor, truffle spore, mocha, chai and leather. On the palate the wine delivers black cherry and spice with a juicy mid-palate, a luxurious mouthfeel, hints of earthy minerality, spiced notes of cardamom and clove, and a long, complex finish.
