Profile & Story
La Collina dei Lecci is the Brunello di Montalcino label of Fattoria La Lecciaia, a 60-hectare Montalcino estate (15 hectares under vine, 12 registered for Brunello) in the locality of Vallafrico, purchased and modernized by Mauro Pacini in 1983 and surrounded by some of the area's most iconic estates, in the original micro-terroir where Brunello di Montalcino was first produced. The soil is medium loam with sand and clay deposits, vines are trained to spurred cordon, and harvest falls in the last week of September into the first week of October. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks for 15-20 days, followed by a minimum of 36 months of aging in Slavonian oak casks and at least 4 months in bottle; the wine is released a minimum of 5 years after harvest. ABV is 14.0%. James Suckling has rated the wine 91 points.
Tasting Notes
Classic Brunello di Montalcino character from 100% Sangiovese: expect a deep ruby-to-garnet color, an aromatic profile of red cherry, dried herbs and balsamic notes typical of Montalcino's Sangiovese, and a structured, firmly tannic palate built for extended aging, consistent with the estate's traditional 36-month oak regimen.
