Profile & Story

Camigliano farms in the south-west of Montalcino, where its Brunello comes from selected sites chosen after careful clonal work, on clay soils with limestone and silt planted at 5,000 vines per hectare and trained to spurred cordon. The wine is 100 percent Sangiovese Grosso, gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel at 26 to 28 degrees with a skin maceration of twenty to thirty days, then aged twenty-four months in oak casks and a further twelve months in bottle, which lets the tannins soften while the aromatics build. The estate suggests serving it at 18 degrees.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby garnet. Sour cherry and dried plum lift into violet, leather and sweet spice from cask age, and the palate is firm and high-toned, with fine drying tannin and a long savoury finish.

Pairing Recommendation

Game, beef and aged cheeses, and equally good on its own as a meditation wine.
