Cataldi Madonna was founded in 1920 by Antonio Cataldi Madonna and is farmed today by the family at Ofena, in a natural amphitheatre carved out of the foothills of the Gran Sasso that Abruzzo calls its oven, a site with extraordinary sun exposure and wide day-to-night temperature swings from the altitude. Malandrino is the estate's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC, and since the 2012 vintage it has been made without wood, raised only in steel and cement so that fruit and freshness stay intact. It is bottled at 14 percent alcohol.
