Moet & Chandon created Brut Imperial in 1869 and has kept it as the house's signature style ever since. It reflects the diversity of Champagne by blending terroirs, grape varieties and harvests from nearly 280 crus, and is assembled from more than a hundred different wines, of which 20 to 30 percent are reserve wines selected to give the blend maturity, complexity and consistency from year to year. The assemblage is built on 30 to 40 percent Pinot Noir for body, 30 to 40 percent Meunier for suppleness and 20 to 30 percent Chardonnay for finesse, and is finished at a dosage of 7 grams per litre.
