Russian River Ranches is Sonoma-Cutrer's flagship Chardonnay and was originally created as a restaurant-exclusive wine, built to be versatile at the table and consistent from vintage to vintage; it remains one of the most-requested Chardonnays in American restaurants. It is 100 percent Chardonnay drawn from the winery's own estate vineyards together with selected growers. The fruit is picked early, hand-sorted and whole-cluster pressed, then fermented in a mix of new and neutral French oak barrels; the wine goes fully through malolactic fermentation, with roughly three-quarters raised in barrel and the remainder in tank.
