Vallepicciola farms at Castelnuovo Berardenga in the southern reaches of Chianti Classico, and Pievasciata Rosso is its Toscana IGT red, a Super Tuscan blend of 60 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 percent Cabernet Franc and 20 percent Sangiovese. The fruit comes from the Val di Picciola, Casuccio and Mordese vineyards at 380 to 400 metres on limestone and clay soils with marl. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration run in temperature-controlled steel for ten to fifteen days, malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak, and the wine then spends eight to ten months in second-passage barriques followed by four to six months in bottle. The estate gives it around ten years of cellaring potential and suggests serving at 18 to 20 degrees.
