Gaba do Xil is the Valdeorras (Galicia) project of Compañía de Vinos Telmo Rodríguez, founded in 1994 by Telmo Rodríguez and Pablo Eguzkiza to revive Spain's original native-grape vineyards. ‘O Barreiro’ expresses the Atlantic character of this part of Valdeorras through its native varieties — mostly Godello, with other indigenous white grapes such as Doña Blanca and Treixadura — organically farmed on red-slate and clay soils.
