Moreau-Naudet Petit Chablis

Profile & Story

Domaine Moreau-Naudet dates from the 1950 marriage of Marie Naudet and Rene Moreau, though the family's roots in Chablis reach back to the seventeenth century. Stephane Moreau took the domaine on from his father Roger in 1993 and drove it to prominence before his death in 2016 at forty-seven; his wife Virginie and the cellar team have carried it on since. The vines are farmed without synthetic fertilisers, pesticides or fungicides, on organic amendments alone, with the soils ploughed four or five times a year and short pruning, disbudding and green harvesting standing in for insecticides and anti-rot sprays. The Petit Chablis comes off a 2.5 hectare parcel of young vines, hand-harvested at below-average yields, fermented on indigenous yeasts and raised nine months in stainless steel with no wood, at 12.5% alcohol.
