Profile & Story
Federico Orsi was born in Bologna and raised in Brazil, and was working as a business consultant when the Azienda Agricola San Vito came up for sale in 2005. He bought it on the condition that he would sell it again if it did not pay within five years, converted it to biodynamics in his first year, and by 2009 was vinifying everything on native yeasts, unfined, unfiltered and only lightly sulphured at bottling. The estate at Monteveglio in the Colli Bolognesi is certified biodynamic across roughly fifteen hectares of clay, limestone, sand and gravel, and also raises Mora Romagnola pigs and a year-round market garden. Posca Bianca is a vino perpetuo: a perpetual tank started in 2011 and topped up roughly monthly with younger wine, so only a small share is drawn off at each bottling and the blend never stops evolving. It is built from a 2.5 hectare block of mixed white varieties including Alionza, Albana, Malvasia and Pignoletto, fermented spontaneously with no clarification or filtration, and because it carries no vintage every bottle is hand-stamped with its own bottling date.
Tasting Notes
Pale yellow and slightly cloudy, with elderflower, white peach and gooseberry on the nose. Not quite in the orange-wine spectrum, but with real texture and depth, holding on to a crisp acidity and a prominent minerality.
Pairing Recommendation
Good as an aperitif, and a fit for fish dishes and fresh cheeses.
