Profile & Story
Kisi is an ancient and increasingly rare Georgian variety from the Akhmeta viticulture zone of Kakheti. The grapes come from the Khibla vineyard on the right bank of the Alazani River at 2,000 feet. Small unripe clusters are removed by hand in summer to concentrate the remaining fruit. Wild fermentation takes place in a buried qvevri for 6-8 months, producing the wine's distinctive amber hue from full skin contact, followed by 4-6 months in French oak. The 2019 vintage earned Silver at the International Qvevri Wine Competition 2020. Only 15,000 bottles produced. The wine is 100% vegan. Awards: International Qvevri Wine Competition Silver 2020 (2019 vintage)
Tasting Notes
A medium-bodied orange wine rich in tannins - unusual for a white. Aromas of ripe pear, peach, and caramelized fruit lead into ginger and vanilla tones. The palate is plump and floral, with the amber hue coming entirely from skin contact. Approachable and expressive without the intensity of a full maceration wine.
Pairing Recommendation
Versatile at the table - excellent with spiced poultry, roasted pork, Middle Eastern mezze, or a cheese board with washed-rind varieties. The tannins and texture make it a natural match for dishes that would overwhelm a conventional white wine.
