Profile & Story
Cantina Bolzano (Kellerei Bozen) is a cooperative founded in 1908 by 30 farmers and today comprising 224 families farming the sunny basin around Bolzano. Huck am Bach is named for the historic Hof Huck am Bach farm and draws its Schiava (Vernatsch) and Lagrein from gravelly soils in the Santa Maddalena / St. Magdalener zone above Bolzano, between 250 and 500 meters, harvested in early-to-mid October and traditionally fermented with aging in large oak vats.
Tasting Notes
Intense ruby red with floral notes of violets and roses, fruity aromas of red cherry and raspberry, and the variety's typical bitter almond and marzipan aromas; full and smooth on the palate with a persistent finish.
Pairing Recommendation
Pairs with meat dishes such as carne salada and tagliatelle with game ragout, smoked meats, dumplings, Speck, pasta and hard cheeses.
