Podrum Franjo is the label of Kreso Petrekovic, a Croatian-born former New York wine importer who returned to his family's homeland to make wine in tribute to his father Franjo. Fruit for "Aubiks" comes from Pljesivica, Lower Styria, from 40-100 year old vines on clay-limestone soils, farmed organically and hand-harvested. It is a field blend of Blauer Kolner, Blaufrankisch, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Plavec, Sipalj, Kraljevina and Yellow Muscat, given a 3-day separate maceration of each variety before spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts.
