Profile & Story
Gernot and Heike Heinrich took over Gernot's family winery in Gols, Burgenland in 1985 and converted to biodynamic viticulture in 2006, becoming founding members of Respekt, Austria's biodynamic certifying body; the estate today farms about 90 hectares split between the Gols plains and the cooler Leithaberg slopes. This Blaufrankisch comes from old vineyards on the east-facing Leithaberg slopes toward Lake Neusiedl in Jois, Winden and Breitenbrunn, on fossil-rich limestone, calcareous sandstone and mica schist; hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented in wooden fermentation vats with three weeks on the skins, gently pressed with a basket press, and aged 18 months in used 500-liter tonneaux.
Tasting Notes
Deep purple-red with violet reflections; aromas of blackberries, ripe cherries and elderberries with black pepper, figs and a hint of cinnamon blossom; juicy dark fruit, fine-grained tannins and savory spice with ripe acidity on the palate.

Pairs with braised beef cheeks, wild ragout or aged alpine cheese.
