Profile & Story

The Zwettl Monastery was founded in 1074, and in 1171 its Cistercian monks were granted the historic Heiligenstein and Gaisberg vineyards, among the oldest documented sites in the Kamptal; Eva and Michael Moosbrugger have run the estate since 1996. This rose is made from Zweigelt, St. Laurent and Pinot Noir grown in the cooler sites of Gobelsburg and Langenlois; rather than using saignee to concentrate red wines, the estate farms specific vineyards for rose in a style sought closer to a white wine than a red.

Pairing Recommendation

Pairs with cheese platters, crudites and salads, or a platter of cold meats -- or simply as an aperitif, in the Austrian Buschenschank tradition.
