Domaines Schlumberger has farmed its Alsace vineyards since 1810, and its heirs today cultivate 140 hectares on the steep slopes above Guebwiller, the largest estate in Alsace, including four Grand Cru sites. The "Les Princes Abbés" range takes its name from the Prince Abbots of Murbach, who tended the vineyard for over 1,000 years before it passed to the Schlumberger family after the French Revolution.
Tasting Notes
Lemon yellow with clear reflections, the wine opens with a frank, intense bouquet of golden apple, citrus, and white flowers, joined with air by notes of hops, lemongrass, and a touch of smoke. The palate is refined and pearling, with persistent citrus, apple, and floral flavors, a hint of bitterness, and a long, refreshingly acidic finish.
Pairing Recommendation
Recommended with aperitifs, salads and hors d'oeuvres, and white meats -- the estate suggests grilled herring with lemon, a peas-and-carrots salad, or goat's milk cheeses.
