Profile & Story

Coppo has been rooted in Canelli since 1892 and has produced Barolo since the late 1940s, one of the few houses granted a special ministerial derogation to vinify Nebbiolo from the Barolo zone outside the Langhe itself. This bottling is 100% Nebbiolo from south- and southwest-facing vineyards between 650 and 820 feet, on calcareous clay marl with sand and silt, trained by Guyot. The healthiest, ripest grapes are hand-picked and macerated on the skins with short, soft pump-overs; malolactic fermentation is carried out in full, and the wine ages 36 months in large oak casks. Coppo's historic underground cellars beneath Canelli, part of a UNESCO World Heritage network of 'underground cathedrals,' extend some 5,000 square meters and reach a depth of 40 meters.
