Plácet Vinos de Familia is the white-wine project of Bodegas Palacios Remondo, the Alfaro estate in Rioja Oriental led by Álvaro Palacios since 1999. 'Plácet' is Álvaro's only white wine, made entirely from Viura grown on old vines — some over thirty years — on the calcareous soils at the foot of Mount Yerga, farmed organically. Rioja Oriental (formerly Rioja Baja) is the appellation's warmest, most easterly district, and Viura is its classic white grape, traditionally used for structured, age-worthy whites made with extended lees contact in large oak vessels — the style Valtomelloso is built around.
