Tignanello is a milestone of Italian wine: the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, one of the first contemporary reds blended with Cabernet, and among the first reds of the Chianti Classico area made without white grapes. Produced from a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it comes exclusively from the namesake vineyard (limestone-rich soils at 350–400 m). First made as a single-vineyard wine in 1970 and in its current style since 1982, it is bottled only in favourable vintages.
