Profile & Story
Casanuova delle Cerbaie began its wine adventure in the early 80’s thanks to the inspiration of a German lady in love with Italy and its wines. After buying the old estate, she carefully restored it and started the first wine production. Over the years, the constant commitment to the search for quality allows us to achieve important results, so much so that the 1998 vintage of Brunello di Montalcino reaches the 27th place in the prestigious ranking of the 100 best wines in the world of Wine Spectator magazine. In 2008 a passionate wine connoisseur who has always admired Montalcino and Brunello took over the reins of the estate, bought new vineyards and expanded the winery. Thanks to the close collaboration with Alessandro Brigidi, a native of Montalcino, began an extraordinary path of excellence, which has seen in the years important investments always with the aim of producing high quality wines. The favorable nature of the land and its privileged location give the Brunello produced in this area of Montalcino a sumptuous elegance and a wide variety of aromas. In the cellar, winemaker Giuseppe Gorelli works with 20-24 hl Slavonian oak barrels and with magnificent Austrian woods by Franz Stockinger, carefully selected to exalt the evolution of Brunello. The estate covers 15 hectares of land, of which about 10 hectares of vineyards registered with Sangiovese, 2 of olive groves and 3 between woods and arable land. The vineyards are all located in the north of Montalcino within a few km from the production cellar, extending up to the prestigious hill of Montosoli. The peculiarity of the land and the enviable location, allow to obtain wines of exceptional quality and strong personality: fragrant, elegant, fine, rigorous and extraordinarily long-lived.
Tasting Notes
"Blue flower, baked plum, camphor and dark spice are just some of the aromas you’ll discover on the fantastic Casanuova delle Cerbaie 2021 Brunello. The best straight Brunello that I’ve had to date from the estate, it’s brimming with class and layers of flavors including ripe Marasca cherry, licorice, orange zest and tobacco accompanied by tightly woven, close-grained tannins. It’s well balanced, with bright acidity. While tempting now, give this time to fully unwind and develop. Drink 2031– 2041. Abv: 14% Kerin O\'Keefe November 2025" (Kerin O'Keefe - 96 Pts). A solid and structured Brunello with fine yet muscular tannins that give an outstanding backbone to the wine. Red cherry, berry and terra cotta aromas and flavors lead to a medium body with firm tannins and a caressing finish. A little tight at the end, it needs two or three years to open. Drink after 2027 (James Suckling - 95 Pts).
Pairing Recommendation
Our Brunello di Montalcino pairs perfectly with game dishes such as stews, braised meats, wild boar, guinea fowl, or duck, as well as roast veal and pork. Richly seasoned pasta dishes such as wild boar ragù, Tuscan-style pappardelle, or truffle pappardelle, with their intense aromas, are another excellent option. Finally, it also pairs very well with very mature cheeses, such as pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano.
