Profile & Story
LOACKER wines have been grown sustainably for 40 years across all 3 estates. While this requires a demanding work process, it yields incredibly rewarding results for us and nature. The wines of Corte Pavone, Montalcino, are individual, elegant, and bold! This variety is down to nearly exclusively one varietal: the Sangiovese. 100% Tuscan, 100% Loacker. cru name and its meaning: The name for the largest cru vineyard ‘Poggio Molino al Vento’ (en. Windmill on the hill) originates from the wind coming from the sea, which constantly rushes through the vines and was most probably used to operate a windmill in this location. vineyard and its particularity: The “Poggio Molino al Vento” extends over an area of almost 2 soccer fields and is the largest cru. Depending on the vintage, the area actually allocated to the cru quality can vary greatly - even up to a half smaller. Due to the southern exposure and the north-west/south-east facing rows, the vines enjoy constant sunshine from morning to evening. The vineyard is well-ventilated by the “Vento” (wind) and the vines therefore have the perfect climate. terroir and its influence: The Poggio Molino al Vento terroir has a very balanced proportion of sand, silt, and clay. At the vineyard's heart, the soil drains very strongly, which means that the vines are more affected by periods of drought. As a result, the growth of the vines varies greatly from year to year, as does the area actually harvested for the cru (microzone).
Tasting Notes
Poggio Molino al Vento is the cru with the largest surface and therefore has the largest production volume, which allows us to age this wine in large wooden barrels. Due to the high variability in the vineyard, we also use from year to year a little new and used medium-small oak, to highlight the spiciness and complexity for which this cru is known for.
Pairing Recommendation
