Greppone Mazzi
2021, Toscana, Italy
Profile & Story
Greppone Mazzi estate exudes boldness and panache. "Greppi," meaning "uneven, steep slopes," adds drama to the sun-kissed vineyards at 250 to 450 meters altitude. An eighteenth-century villa with an iron-starred cistern steals the show. Sangiovese Grosso, better known as Brunello, reigns supreme here. The fierce habitat of self-draining, arid land yields grapes of perseverance. Soil variations, from clay to loam, create earthy complexity. Sangiovese boasts power, elegance, and longevity in the Brunello di Montalcino appellation. Hot summer days and sea breezy nights infuse wines with balance and concentration. Greppone Mazzi's 50-year-old Brunello vine embodies serious wine heritage.
